Cryogenic Heat Exchangers
Cryogenic vaporizers for industrial gas and specialty applications
FWM manufactures ambient air vaporizers, also known as cryogenic heat exchangers or atmospheric vaporizers, that convert liquid cryogens back to gas using ambient air as the heat source. No electricity required for standard operation. Built in the USA since 1975.
How ambient air vaporizers work
Cryogenic liquids, nitrogen, oxygen, argon, LNG, are stored at extremely low temperatures. To use them in gas form, the liquid must absorb heat and vaporize. Ambient air vaporizers use finned aluminum tubing to transfer heat from the surrounding air into the cryogenic liquid, converting it to gas without requiring external power or fuel.
The vaporization rate depends on the fin surface area, ambient temperature, humidity, air circulation, and the specific cryogen's boiling point. Properly sized vaporizers ensure consistent gas delivery without ice buildup that reduces capacity.
FWM vaporizers are designed for the rated conditions shown on the datasheet. Actual performance varies with ambient conditions, colder environments may require larger units, electric backup, or manifolded banks for continuous operation.
